Ginebra

Stepped into the Museo del Anís in Rute and instantly felt like I’d stumbled into a hidden gem that’s been pouring Spain’s spirit into bottles for centuries. The air smells faintly of sweet anise, and the displays pull you into a story of tradition, craft, and a surprising twist: did you know anise was once used as a medieval love potion? The museum’s cozy vibe and passionate staff make it feel like you’re visiting a friend’s family heirloom collection. Grab tickets for about €3 (buy directly at the door to avoid online hassles) and plan for a weekday morning visit from 10 AM to 2 PM or 4 PM to 7 PM—weekends are for pre-booked groups only, so call ahead if you’re coming Saturday. Bring a small notebook; you’ll want to jot down the names of local anise brands to taste later at La Tequería nearby. Don’t rush give yourself an hour to soak it all in, and check out the quirky bottle collection that’ll have you snapping photos.
